After Echuca fell in the semi-finals, Mooroopna was crowned champion of the Goulburn Murray Cricket women’s competition on Sunday, earning redemption from its 2023-24 defeat.
Having gone undefeated throughout last season only to fall at the final hurdle to Echuca Green, the Cats made no mistake this time around, capping off another undefeated campaign with a four-wicket victory over Nagambie.
After being sent in, Nagambie made a competitive 6-132 off the back of Kait Carracher’s 39 retired not out from 30 balls.
Charlie Nicholson and Lauren Hall each took two wickets to lead Mooroopna.
The Cats needed almost the full allocation of overs to chase down the total, getting home with just three balls to spare.
Gemma Boyd did the lion’s share of the work with the bat, making 42 retired not out.
Carracher was just as useful with ball in hand for the Lakers, taking 3-22 to lead her side in both innings.
Defending champion Echuca was eliminated in the semi-final stage by the Lakers, while fellow local hope Moama missed the finals series on tiebreakers.
