Moama was a big winner over Rich River in round seven, taking all three rinks against the current wooden spooners to win 16-62 to 0-37.
Emma Simmonds skipped the biggest win for Moama, restricting opponent Dennis Demeo to single figures in the 23-9 win.
Marilyn Stephenson also logged a comfortable victory for the Steamers, 22-14, while Trevor Eastwell completed the rink trifecta with a 17-14 win in the remaining contest.
With top dogs Echuca sitting out with the bye, Mathoura took the opportunity to draw closer to the league leaders, prevailing over Rochester 14-67 to 2-57.
Skip Dennis McHarry was on song for Mathoura, picking up a 28-13 result, while teammate Peter Pangrazio put a second win on the board for his side.
Rochester skip Kevin Hall pulled back some of the deficit, winning 24-14, but it wasn’t enough for Rochy as Mathoura took the match convincingly.
An almighty effort from Jamie Stokes got Stanhope home against Deniliquin, despite his side dropping the other two rinks.
Stokes skipped his side to a 22-9 win in his rink, his squad of Mavis Marshall (lead), Gregory Fitzpatrick (second) and Neville Crowe (third) functioning well as a unit.
Deniliquin skips Craig Hillier and Stephen O’Brien both scored narrow rink wins but neither could get more than a single shot ahead of their Stanhope opponents, Hillier getting the win 18-17, and O’Brien 17-16, resulting in a 12-55 to 4-44 overall victory for Stanhope.
Echuca remain on top of the ladder after the bye.
Division two
In division two, Moama also had a convincing win over Rich River, but couldn’t secure maximum points.
Kevin Connolly and Bill Curnow each grabbed big rink wins for Moama, but Leon Sharp’s 18-16 victory for Rich River denied Moama the sweep in the 14-79 to 2-50 result.
Echuca continues to look like a contender, defeating Rochester 14-66 to 2-49.
Anton Gusak snatched a narrow win for Rochester 24-23, but Echuca’s Malcolm Thorn and Trevor Nagorcka were too strong in the other rinks as Echuca logged a regulation victory.
Weather continued to affect the competition as the scheduled contest between Ky Valley View and Deniliquin RSL was abandoned, the greens unsuitable for play.
Division three
Echuca got the victory over Tongala Red 12-42 to 2-25, Joan Moss scoring a big win to get her side home.
Moama took both rinks against Elmore, winning 14-46 to 0-25, skips Deana Hogan and Jan Sullivan both scoring comfortable wins.
Division four
Cellar-dwellers Tongala Red surprised Echuca in a 14-47 to 0-31 result Betty Ozols and Noel West securing their side's second win of the season.
Each team had a big win in one rink, but it was Rich River who got home over Stanhope, 12-44 to 2-41.
A huge victory for Lockington skip Stephen Peter, 36-12, earned his side the win over Rochester 12-54 to 2-35.
