Fighting on Rebellion Muay Thai’s Roots 16: Survival card on Saturday, Matthews’ opponent, Josh Lim, came out firing early in front a healthy crowd at Melbourne Pavilion, though Matthews held his own to finish the opening round.
The local fighter upped his intensity in the second round, landing several solid blows, before going on to win by an unanimous points decision and take his record to 2-1.
Fellow fighter Jarren Duncan lost his first professional Muay Thai fight by a technical knock out earlier in the day.
Duncan came up against Madison Ives, who he had beaten before in an amateur fight in 2019.
But Duncan was unable to replicate the same result, his own death blow coming within 2.39 of the opening bell.
