It seems there’s no stage big enough to contain the crew at Revival Aerobics Studio.

The Shepparton troupe wowed judges at the Schoolaerobics State Championships held in Rowville, Melbourne on June 3-4, boasting an astonishing 20 medals from its 26 members.
A wide spread of ages 8-28 took to the floor in the sport, which fuses high-intensity gymnastic moves with dance, to collect 11 golds, two silvers and seven bronzes and gain passage to the 2023 Schoolaerobics National Championships.
It’ll be held at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre on August 10-14, with Revival’s 21 national entries meaning 25 athletes are off to South Australia.
Everything considered, club co-owner Sean Reynolds, who runs Revival alongside Daniel Johnson, was as proud as punch of his members.
“We’re very proud … last year we qualified with 13 kids and now this year we’re taking on 25,” he said.
“The comp is basically about performing your routine that you’ve been training to music in front of judges, and the judges are judging you based off your technique as well as your artistic.
“Then obviously you’re against people in your category and your age group.
“They’ve been training their new routines probably since November or December last year, we’ve had roughly five to six competitions so far this year and now nationals are in Adelaide in August.”
Revival ticked off April’s regional qualifiers with style and with the state championships now been and gone, the grind ramps up as the young bunch vies to impress in company of the country’s best.
Having seen the intake of nationals-bound competitors almost double from last year, Reynolds, who is no stranger to the big stage, says the nature of competition is sure to benefit all who attend whether they’ve done it before or not.
“It’s a pretty great experience,” he said.
“We had a lot of positive feedback after nationals last year that’s for sure, so I think they’ll love it.”
Revival has enjoyed a steady rise over the past four years, indicated by the healthy entries into this year’s nationals.
Reynolds and Johnson ran the studio out of a rented Corio St space, but are now thriving in their new digs on Mitchell St, where the ceiling seems ever so high for what is capable for the group.
“We’ve been around since 2019, but we’ve only recently opened up our own actual space – we used to rent out a space in Shepp,” Reynolds said.
“We’ve had lots and lots of growth which is great.”
