Last year, the Moama athlete competed in the Ultra Man competition in Noosa raising funds for Dolly’s dream.
His efforts in this competition alone raised more $10,000.
Luke also organised a Big Freeze swim in the Murray where several thousand dollars were raised for the Fight MND charity.
On a personal front, he is an active member of the Echuca Tri Club and a founding member of the Murray River Swimmers.
Over the last 12 months he has competed in many Tri and Ultra events; often with podium finishes.
“In another fantastic achievement to add to his list, Luke launched a Boxing Day run that is now an annual event to raise awareness and funds for the mental health of farmers,” his nomination read.
“It started with a bit of a twist, with Luke committing to run 1km for every millimetre of rain that occurs in the autumn break.
“The format was fun and it stuck: and now this great initiative is broadcast on district, regional and state competitions and ABC Country Hour.
“Luke is not only a talented sportsperson but an outstanding community volunteer too.
“His individual achievements are exceptional and the contribution he makes to various types of charities is to be commended.”
