It was a close contest right up until the halfway point at Tatura, with Colbinabbin building a solid lead soon after the break, before eventually taking out the win with an 83-57 scoreline.
This result surprised many onlookers, with Kyabram beating its grand final opponent by 19 shots in the semi-final.
Colbinabbin club president and rink two skip Shane Ryan said it was a fantastic result.
“It was really great, we sort of were a 50-50 chance going in,” Ryan said.
“During the season they’d beaten us once and we’d beaten them once and in the second semi-final they beat us by a fair bit, so we changed teams a little bit.
“At half-time we were all square, but after that things fell our way and it was really great.”
The transformation from semi-final loss to grand final win came about with a changed team, with chairman of selectors Gregory Chandler changing the team around.
Young Shayla Watts was one player whose role changed, with Watts taking on the role of skip in rink one.
This change proved to be beneficial, with rink one winning 24-21.
“Being young and energetic she had no fear and she was just unbelievable,” Ryan said.
“After smoko we sort of hit our straps and they dropped off a tad I reckon.”
The grand final win means a lot to the club, with celebrations continuing at the club rooms long after the game had finished.
“Our club is a very small club, we’ve only got 20 members all up, that’s in ladies and men,” Ryan said.
“The last one we won was in 2004-05, we’ve played in plenty, but haven’t won, so it was a really great feeling and we were all so stoked.”
