Kings Park will have to wait an extra week to see any action, however, with Seymour getting its season under way with a round one road trip to Moon Oval in Rochester to take on the Tigers as the Goulburn Valley League returns to play.
The Tigers enjoyed a rapid ascension up the senior football ladder last season after a turbulent few years on and off the field, and after reaching a preliminary final in 2024, should present a solid first-up challenge for the Lions, who are looking to recapture the same form they showed in 2023.
With plenty of new faces donning the Lions guernsey this year after an active recruiting period in the off-season, round one shapes as an exciting contest for a Seymour side that has hopes of contending.
On the netball court, Seymour will be looking to get Casey Adamson’s tenure as A-grade head coach off to a winning start, with the line-up remaining virtually the same as last season.
The group has been a constant presence in finals in recent times and will be hoping to bank win number one this weekend as it charges towards September action.
The Kyabram District League season will also kick off in earnest this weekend, with plenty of local sides aiming to start their year on the right foot.
Avenel is set to host Longwood on Saturday in an enticing round one clash, with Avenel sporting new senior football and A-grade netball coaches in Josh Delaney and Georgia Velt, respectively.
Sarah Brock has taken the reins of Longwood’s A-grade netball side, while Jordan Formosa returns once again to lead the Redlegs in their pursuit of footy finals, with both clashes set to be absolute corkers.

Nagambie Recreation Reserve will see the Lakers host Violet Town on Saturday, again with plenty of new coaches looking to secure wins first up.
Thirteen-time Lakers best-and-fairest and reigning league medallist Sharni Lloyd will oversee Nagambie’s A-grade netball efforts this season alongside Sarsha Berens, with the duo to come up against a Violet Town side led by first-year coach Jessie Kipping.
On the footy field, Harley Taylor-Lloyd will be looking to take a few strides further into September in his sophomore year at the helm of the Lakers, with the chance to make a statement in round one against the Towners and their new coach Brad Gleeson.
