Association women’s captain Mandy Faram, deputising for president David Roberts, presented the award to Ohlin at a lunch at Shepparton Golf Club on Thursday, April 15.
Although Ohlin's win of the award was announced at the association's delegates’ meeting in March, it was agreed it would be best, more appropriate and more fun to make the presentation to him at a lunch with his colleagues, mates and other Shepparton Golf Club members where his work can be fully acknowledged.
In addition to recognition of Ohlin’s work, the committee wishes to publicly thank David Quinn of Valley Sports who organised the judging, which kept the committee at arm’s length from the decision making.
Ohlin has been a volunteer contributor at Shepparton Golf Club for many years and over that time as well as serving on the committee he has supervised the extension of the clubhouse, building of the pro shop, building of machinery shed and pump stations.
However, in concentrating on the Volunteer of the Year, it was his continual work ethic and his mentoring of apprentice staff in welding and mechanical maintenance and ensuring machines were always in working order for extensive works carried out during COVID-19 restrictions, that convinced the judges Ohlin was truly “of the year”.
Perhaps the best summary of Ohlin’s contribution can be found in a paragraph from the entry submitted by Shepparton Golf Club manager Russ Powell.
“He has always practiced with a hands on approach and has shared his expertise willingly,” he said.
“Lloyd goes about his volunteer duties with a minimum of fuss and is a quiet achiever.
“His contribution as a volunteer is outstanding. He is reliable, loyal and his kind nature is exemplary to all.”
Well done and congratulations.
The GMGA is pleased to recognise your contribution.
