By early in the final term Shepparton East had made it clear it would share the limelight no longer as it pulled away with might, racing out to a 44-31 triumph in relative comfort.
Star goalkeeper Sarah Maskell, who previewed the Kyabram District League netball main event for The News, was jubilant for her team and the recognition bestowed upon her in a post-match interview.
“I feel like I’m in a dream,” Maskell said.
“I just can’t believe it.
“When they said my name out loud (for the best-on-court award), I was in shock.”
Though undoubtedly vital in halting the momentum of a Tallygaroopna attacking staff that typically exerts profound influence in games, Maskell wanted to ensure the collective group received the majority of praise.
“It’s a team effort and I couldn’t do it without the girls,” Maskell said.
“We all have each other’s back and we always support each other on court.”
Maskell was dismissive of suggestions that she or the Eagles had made it look easy despite the dominant spell they enjoyed for the final 15 minutes of the affair.
“Whenever we play (Tallygaroopna), it’s a very hard hit-out,” she said.
“We’re usually down after the first quarter.
“But in my position, being goalkeeper, I could look down at the girls and see we were presenting really strong.
