The fresh-faced committee of the YMCC is excited about the challenge ahead and is looking forward to continuing to make big strides off the field as well as on it.
The club has seen a number of changes to its playing list including the departures of Ben Irvine (White Hills), Ben Radford (Craigieburn), Zach Moore (Barooga), Brendan Lewis (Barooga) and Josh Lawrence (retired). The Lakers would like to thank these men for their outstanding contribution to the YMCC and look forward to welcoming them back at some stage in the future.
Additions to the Lakers’ list in season 2022/23 will include Corey Mcintosh, who returns after a year at the Tallangatta Cricket Club. Corey is a former A Grade Best & Fairest, multiple premiership player and will be a fantastic addition to the A Grade line up slotting into the all-rounder role.
Andrew Dishot has made the move from Dederang Cricket Club to become a Laker this season. Dishot has already shown that he will be a valuable asset to the club, boasting a strong ability with bat and ball.
Willie Wheeler will be a great addition. The left hander plays an attacking style of game and is looking forward to re-uniting his Avenel playing days with his brother Harry.
The Lakers will be looking to continue to develop the youth with a host of junior players now stepping up into the senior ranks. Jobe Fraser, Tom Lovel, Ollie Cope, Ollie Connell, Ben Kennedy, Mitch Appleby, Tom Coffey, TJ Docking and Gus Saunders are all set for big seasons down at Victoria Park.
Veterans and legends of the Lakers will again pull the pads on to continue to share their wealth of experience and knowledge of the game. Brendan Hill, Gary Browning and Justin O’Brien will yet again play prominent roles on and off the field as they have done for years on end.
The club has a wealth of depth amongst the senior grades and will again boast a healthy list that will compete strongly. Led by the coach Reid Clarke, players including Matt Casey, Brock McCabe, Ben Welsh, Angus McMillan, Matt McCabe, Rory Bartlett, Jacob Barlett, Bailey Frauenfelder, Mitch Collins-Bye, Kyle Archibald, Ben Pickering, Tom Draffin, Fraser Smart, Jyda House, Matt Knight and Harry Wheeler will continue to push and drive strong standards amongst the playing group.
Round 1 kicks off this Saturday, October 15 for A Grade, A Reserve and B Grade, with C Grade to commence the following week. Be sure to head out to catch a glimpse of the ‘Lakers’ strutting their stuff in the WDCA.
