While the club won’t have its new executive in place until after the meeting, it has already been busily preparing to ensure the future of the club by organising a junior pre-season program to start.
Coach David Starling said the junior section of the Kyabram tennis club would be having four competition sign up and practice sessions for those wanting to get into the sport or try tennis for the first time.
The sessions are being held on August 24, August 31, September 7 and September 14, from 4pm to 5pm.
Some coaching tips and help will also be available for those wishing to start playing tennis.
The September 7 session will double up as a free come and try afternoon for the Hot Shots program.
Kyabram Lawn Tennis Club’s annual meeting is on Wednesday, August 23, at 7pm at the club rooms, 53 Lake Rd, Kyabram.
All members are invited, or anybody interested in being a member or joining the committee, with no RSVP required.
Club vice-president Mitch Cox said after a successfully season, the club was ready to kick off a new one, hopefully with some added manpower.
“One of our teams made the grand final and I think most of the others made the finals, so it was good,” he said.
“We’re still struggling for some volunteers though.”
Cox is hoping to fill the positions of secretary, treasurer and junior co-ordinator for the club.
The juniors are a main focus, with hopes to create more pathways from the lower ages to the seniors and bridge the gap with a club night later in the season.
Cox also invited the community to make use of the courts at the club for free during the month of September.
“We basically just want to show them off, we’re pretty proud of them,” he said.
“We’ve put a lot of hard work into the courts and we think they’re some of the best in the region.”
Cox encouraged anybody with queries or questions to give him a call on 0497 291 197 or Starling on 0427 004 457.
