The Bombers had their second pre-season hit-out against Bendigo Football League club Golden Square.
According to Kyabram co-coach Kaine Herbert, ruckman and skipper Norris was back to his best.
‘‘He was our best player. He dominated the ruck and kicked a couple of goals when resting forward. It was the old Zac,’’ Herbert said.
Norris missed all of last season after a shoulder reconstruction.
Herbert said another plus for the Bombers, who won by about five or six goals, was the form of nippy Moama recruit Jack Russell, who was lively on ball and slotted a couple of goals when he went forward.
‘‘He was pretty impressive,’’ Herbert said.
Riley Ironside, in his first game of the season, also looked sharp in attack and hit the scoreboard a couple of times.
Young star Archie Watt was again elusive in patches and will be with the Bombers all season after missing out on being selected in Port Melbourne’s VFL final squad.
The news on Watt is sweet music to the Bombers, with the side having lost tall utility Mitch Dodos and Nathan Torney in recent times.
Dodos has been picked up by Geelong Football League club Newton Chilwell Eagles.
Dodos, who attends university in Geelong, has been training with Newton Chilwell and has impressed its new coach, former AFL star Stevie Johnson.
Dodos, who can play forward, will be missing from Kyabram’s line-up this season along with other key goal-kickers Brad Mangan and Anthony Depasquale.
Rebounding defender Torney, one of four Queenslanders who played for the Bombers last season, has also told the club he is joining an amateur club in Melbourne.
His Queensland mates Marcus Khoo, Bailey Tome and Jackson Griffiths have also moved on.
Several senior Kyabram players, including key forward Tom Holman, missed the game at Elmore.
