Alex Barnes won the under-16 1500m walk with a time of nine minutes, 21.39 seconds — becoming Kyabram’s first state champion since Riley Ironside in 2014.
Other young athletes also performed well at Knox on March 9 and 10, with many beating their personal bests.
“This is the largest amount of athletes we’ve had qualify for a state championships in well over 10 years, and we are so proud of every one of them for being in the top 24 athletes in Victoria in their chosen events,” Kyabram Little Athletics president Claudia Moore said.
