Teenager Henry Boswood defeated the experienced Brent Reiner in the intra-club event’s final to claim his title as Kyabram’s bowls club champion for season 2023-24.
After advancing with a quarter-final win over Joe Greco and then toppling Stephen Piggott in the semis, Boswood brought yet more credentials to an ever-developing junior contingent at Kyabram.
Though the win came at Reiner’s expense, he was more than proud.
“Henry bowled very well and I didn’t,” Reiner said.
“We’ve given the youngsters a real shot at it this year. We believe in them and that they’re capable and they haven’t let us down this year.
“Henry has one of the best deliveries of all the juniors and he’s just a natural.
“He won the under-18 pairs with his brother (Charlie) to start the season and was unfortunate not to make the state under-18 side.
“We’ve worked on a bit the last couple of years to get his head right.”
With his club victory, Boswood advances to the Goulburn Valley Playing Area’s Champion of Champions event on Sunday, where he will encounter the other seven club title winners in a knockout tournament.
A place at the state Champion of Champions event is on the line for the winner.
“He doesn’t take it too seriously, but deep down, I know he wants to go further with his game and I can see him doing that in the coming years,” Reiner said.
