Kyabram was never in a position to seriously challenge Old Students’ score of 230, as they were dismissed for 150 in 55.2 overs on Saturday.
Only Ethan Hart, promoted to opener, and Kyle Mueller put up any serious long-term resistance to the Old Students attack.
Hart top scored with a patient 36 off 76 balls and Mueller made a cautious 32 off 72 balls trying to hold the Kyabram batting order together.
Cade Muelle (17), Alec Young (14) and Jackson McLay with an unbeaten 18 were the only other Kyabram batsmen to reach double figures against the Old Students attack led by Callan McCade. He took 3-9 off nine overs with six maidens.
Kyabram still holds third place on the ladder.
It will host top-of-the-ladder Central Park St Brendan’s in the final home-and-away round starting this Saturday.
With other results going in its favour last Saturday, Kyabram will hold its spot in the top six even if beaten.
A side strain to coach and key bowler Jackson McLay hasn’t helped Kyabram’s chances, and he is unlikely to bowl in this game, being saved for the start of the finals in a fortnight.
X Kyabram’s B-grade side fared better than the A-grade outfit and pulled off a decisive win over Old Students.
Resuming at 4-30 and chasing Kyabram’s declared score of 9-181 on the opening day, Old Students fell for 91 on day two against Kyabram’s attack, led by Jason Parsons.
Parsons, coming off a knock of 90 the previous week, completed a fine double in the game by taking 3-10 off 11 overs with seven maidens.
Paul Wickham and Mason McDonald were also multiple wicket takers for Kyabram.
X In E-grade, Kyabram chased down Northerners 9-199 in 31 overs, with opener Marc Coates and Ross Brown both making half-centuries.
Flynn Burrows with an unbeaten 29 and Quinn Wickham with 22 also did their bit with the bat to secure the win.
Anthony Evans was Kyabram’s most successful bowler, taking 3-25.
