With a new campaign and fresh slate just around the corner, there is a buzz of excitement at Mount Major.
Dookie United has put the frustrations of 2021 in the rear vision mirror and is looking forward to what the upcoming Kyabram District League season will bring.
The club has strengthened its list, announced talented tall Jack Threlfall as co-coach to Daniel Burness and kept majority of its roster from last year.
With a positive summer pre-season now under their belt, the Thunder look set on a big assault on finals action.
“Hopefully we can have a better run at it than last year,” Threlfall said.
“Injuries played havoc on us.
“From round one to our last game before the season was cancelled, there was something like 12-13 forced changes due to injuries.
“Fingers crossed we don’t have to deal with the same amount of injuries this time around.”
The summer months have had Dookie United welcome more than 10 players to its ranks, with majority jumping across from Shepparton United.
Jarad Newman, Spencer Gillespie and Josh Kezerle are just a few players that have made the switch from the Goulburn Valley League outfit.
“It’s been pretty good. We have picked up quite a few new faces,” Threlfall said.
“It’s good to have new guys come in, it’s raised the excitement levels within the group. One of the big positives is we’ve been able to keep pretty much everyone from last year.
“Pre-season has been spent getting to know each other, but it’s been really positive.”
Threlfall, who is about to embark on his second season at the Thunder, said he had been relishing his new role as co-coach.
“It’s been good to do it with Dan, I’ve really enjoyed it so far,” he said.
“There’s also a lot of other leaders around the side that I can lean on as well. Josh (Preston) has been great to work with, it’s been good to bounce ideas off him and everyone.”
