Shepparton East managed to quench the dangerous Josh Mellington to overpower Violet Town in a second-half comeback to snatch a crucial win in the Kyabram District League.

Coach Robert Osborne said he was hoping to take one win out of his side’s first two games of 2022 but was stoked to nab wins against Dookie in round one and the Towners on Saturday at Central Park Reserve, Shepparton East.

Tom Campbell restricted Mellington to just two goals while Dwain Vidler kept Jack Exell to three as the Eagles ran out 65-point winners.
Shepparton East was up by 13 points at half-time but ran away with a 10-goal-to-two second half, including keeping the Towners scoreless in the third stanza.
Osborne lauded his midfield’s two-way running to get back and help his defenders as well as heaping praise on Campbell and Vidler.

“Mellington’s one of the best country footballers we’ve seen this decade, Tommy did a ripper job on him,” he said.
Adem Barolli and Brandon Corish kicked three for the Eagles, with Osborne crediting the second-half turnaround to his side clicking and cleaning up the skills.
Around the grounds, Stanhope had no answers for the tall timber of Murchison-Toolamba as the Grasshoppers ran out 15-point winners at home.

James Lloyd kicked five while his brother Aidan also hit the scoreboard, with Ryan Semmel kicking three for Stanhope.
Avenel confirmed its place as one of the teams to beat in 2022, following up last weekend’s win against Nagambie with a 64-point win over Dookie United.
The Tobin brothers helped knock over Dookie with Mitch and Tom both in the Swans’ best, while Tim Brook kicked four and Michael Mckenzie and Jake Sutherland both kicked three majors.
Jarred Newman and Jai Limosani were both in the best for Dookie.
Undera recorded a 57-point win against an improving Longwood side.

Meanwhile, several games blew out with large margins in the Saturday games.
Lancaster recorded a 30-goal win over Rushworth in a 29.20.194 to 3.0.18 victory.
Timothy Strapp kicked 10 goals while Zaid Besim, Tom Davies and Jack Donnell all finished with four in the shellacking.
Girgarre also recorded a strong win with a 102-point victory over Tallygaroopna.
Coach Damian Cupido kicked seven from full-forward and Ryan Butler five as the Roos ran out 26.9.165 to 9.9.63 winners.
In the Sunday game, Merrigum handed Nagambie a 72-point hiding at Merrigum Recreation Reserve.
