The Tigers brought a fierce resolve to the game against a third-ranked Katandra, outworking the Kats from the jump to scalp a 16.9 (105) to 5.11 (41) triumph on their home deck.
It was clear much more than four points was on the line before the match had even started.
A sea of black and yellow swarmed the runway to the rooms at Katamatite Recreation Reserve as Mark Mills barged through the banner for his 150th game in club colours, and the extra bit of impetus showed as the host propelled to a 16-point lead at the first break.
The Kats matched Katamatite’s pace in the second term, but a five-goal flurry in the third from Katamatite left the visitors in the dust as Katandra would kick 1.5 for the entirety of the second half.
Will Gorman was at his menacing best for the home side as he slotted seven majors on his lonesome, while Wade Demasi chimed in with three.
For Katandra, Mitch McGrath impressed and Luke Smith kicked a pair.
The rousing result bumps Katamatite into seventh just behind Deniliquin Rovers, which holds a favourable position with two games in hand over most of the competition.
Rovers toppled Berrigan by 19 points in a low-scoring affair, though it was night and day in comparison for the side ahead of it, Katunga, after a 22.11 (143) to 5.3 (33) demolition of Rennie.
Daniel Campbell and Brayden Kearns combined for 10 goals, the Swans’ forward pairing only outdone by Waaia’s Charlie Burrows and Dylan Moncur (16 goals) during the Bombers’ 173-point clubbing of Jerilderie.
Elsewhere, Yarroweyah nabbed its first win of the season after beating Blighty 14.12 (96) to 8.9 (57).
On the netball court, Waaia made it seven wins on the trot, blitzing Jerilderie 60-30 at Monash Park.
The Bombers are yet to falter since dropping their round one contest against Deni Rovers, who are the only unbeaten side in the competition following a 46-goal trouncing of Berrigan.
Rounding out the top three is Katandra, which managed to eke out a 43-35 victory over Katamatite.
Lastly, Yarroweyah ousted Blighty 50-27, while Katunga sailed to a 13-goal win over Rennie.
