A home semi-final saw the first placed under-12 Blues side take on Yarrawonga Bulls.
The visitors won the toss and sent the young Bushies into bat where no time was wasted at the crease by any of the players.
An amazing depth of batting was on display with Toby Smith (20*), Caleb Hein (18*), Lachlan Osborne (12*), Ted Clancy (18*), Tom Lambert (22*), Dustin Nolan (12*) and Luke Conway (13*) all stepping up to do their part in making sure a strong target was set.
With the loss of only three wickets, the Blues were definitely in the best position to take this game.
At the change of innings, the openers for Yarrawonga got the Bulls off to a flying start posting 50 runs in the first five overs.
With those batters retiring, the Bushies’ bowling attack took off.
Tom Lambert keeping his overs very tight with 2-5 off only two overs.
Ted Clancy, Toby Smith, Dustin Nolan and Toby Fitzgerald contributed with a wicket each of their own.
By then the damage was done and the retired batters coming back in didn’t make any further impact as their wickets soon fell.
The Bushies will take a lot of confidence heading into the grand final this week to be played at Arundel St against the Yarrawonga Rams.
Final score:
U12 Blue – 3-136 (20)
Yarrawonga Bulls – 8-93 (18)
U14 Blue
Day two of the Blues’ game against Greta saw the Bushies head in for a bat to chase down the target of 137.
Whilst they got off to a shaky start, losing their openers early on, Ryder Humphries (27) showed some real class to get the score ticking over.
Tom Osborne stood up when it was needed and posted a score of 52* for his team.
Hugh Ross and Josh Montgomery both made 13 runs each and at the end of the 40 overs, the Bushies had done enough to get the job done.
Our Blue team finished the year in third place and will meet the City Colts next week in the semi-final.
Final score:
U14 Blue – 8-164
Greta Blue – 10-137
U14 Red
The Red’s travelled back to Yarrawonga to defend their total of 133 the week before.
Tom Mount got the first wicket of the day and followed up with a second not long after to cap off a great two-day effort with bat and ball.
Harry Skelton bowled brilliantly with his figures 3-10 off six overs.
Ollie Smith, Noah Anderson and Jack Dermott all taking a wicket each to disrupt the rhythm of the home side.
Things were looking bleak at the 34th over with Yarrawonga only needing five runs to win and five overs still to come.
Enter Noah Cooney. Taking the last two wickets in his fifth over and saving the game gave the Reds the win they were looking for. This helped to keep them undefeated for the season and the opportunity to host a home semi-final against Ovens Valley next week.
Final score:
U14 Red – 10-133 (36)
Yarrawonga Rams – 10-129 (34.4)
U16
With a top two finish and a home final on the line, the U16 Bushies needed to bowl well and field cleanly to guarantee the win.
While it wasn’t pretty, the Bushies were able to get the visitors choking up a lot of balls until a wicket was secured. Ryder Levy kicking things off with Josh Hart not far behind.
Bowler of the day was Kai Dervish taking 3-14 off six overs.
Mitchell Cooney was able to snag two wickets from his 5.5 overs too.
There are still plenty of things to work on at training leading into this week’s semi at the Gardens and fielding may be a focus for the U16 boys.
Final score:
U16 Bushies – 9-147 (36.3)
Beechworth – 7-113 (33.5)
Seniors
B-grade
Playing at the Gardens, the B-grade side hosted Greta and was sent out to bowl by the visitor.
The top order of Greta was kept quiet by the Bushies and other than Greta’s number four batter, there weren’t a lot of major run scorers.
Uday Kommidi, Xavier De Fazio and Jack Fullager all taking two wickets each for the game with Uday involved in the important run out of the Greta number four bat.
With a target of 131 to make, the Bushies wasted no time in chipping away at the score.
Christian De Fazio (48) and Fullager (28) posting impressive scores to open the batting. Craig Williams (41*) and Kieran Linke (6*) finished the game off with six overs in hand.
Final score:
Bushies – 2-135 (30)
Greta – 8-131 (36)
C-grade Red
C-grade Red met Greta Blue at Moyhu on Saturday afternoon, lost the toss and was asked to bowl by the host.
Reading the score card you’d be forgiven in thinking that there was only one bowler for the Bushies side as Nick Jacobs took the first seven wickets of the game.
Ending with 7-32 off eight overs, he had an absolute field day with the Greta batters, supported by Bryce Cooney, Vaughan Carter and Murray Parton each picking up one wicket apiece.
Coming into bat, the score to beat was 185.
Greg Hoysted got things moving hitting a solid 30 before being dismissed.
Tom Snell batted extremely well and notched 20 runs to his name.
Unfortunately, there weren’t any other batters that were able to settle and make an impact.
Final score:
Red – 9-83
Greta Blue – 10-185
