Henderson's journey is a testament to perseverance, with years of hard graft and unwavering commitment finally catching the eye of AFL scouts.
His selection was announced last week, with a jumper presentation and a flurry of media interviews following.
“It is just surreal, it has been a whirlwind last week and a half,” Henderson said in the interviews, released by the club.
“I started at Werribee in 2018 in the VFL system; seven or eight years I’ve been in the system now.
“I’ve seen a lot of boys get drafted from the club, and just recently we have had a lot of success.”
There had been speculation Henderson may join the Demons a year earlier, but he missed out in the rookie draft.
“Yeah, it does feel good to be in the red and blue, I was flat last year after the draft went through.” he said.
Also joining the Demons is Henderson’s former Werribee teammate Aidan Johnson.
Henderson and his Melbourne Demons teammates are intensively training as they prepare for the upcoming AFL season.
The home and away season is set to kick off with its opening round, although, Melbourne won't play their first game until Sunday, March 16 when they take on the GSW Giants in Melbourne.
