While the Goulburn Valley Bush Bash League has been put on hold for a weekend due to coronavirus cases striking out many cricketers across the region, it gives punters the chance to pore over squad lists and determine who’ll put them on the path to victory.
However, the competition will look a little bit different.
Depth in your squad will be more important than ever, because instead of selecting an XII each week, GVBBL Fantasy players will select a squad of 15 to last the entire tournament, with your best 11 players each week going towards your score.
It makes for more tactical decision making, as you decide whether you want to pull a Hail Mary on a marquee player who might play the one game, or try and pick someone who might not provide the monster scores of current Big Bash League players James Seymour and Todd Murphy.
Initially, GVBBL HQ planned on round one of the competition being a ‘‘sighter’’, allowing players to judge form from round one before selecting their squad for rounds two and three, as well as the final.
However, we’ll make that call when we know a bit more about the make-up of the competition and how the pesky novel coronavirus will affect things in coming weeks.
As a reminder, here’s how the scoring system for GVBBL Fantasy works:
Run — one point
Wicket — 20
Catch — 10
Stumping — 15
Run-out (unassisted) — 15
Run-out (assisted) — 5
Half-century — 10
So pull out your notebooks, look over the stats from last year and do what you can to emulate Paul McIness’ heroics to win the whole shebang in 2022.
