A cold but ok day greeted the Hoppers as they took on the high-flying Katunga Swans.
The Hoppers were solid in the first half using the ball better than they have over the last couple of weeks with first use of the ball from O’Dwyer, Strawhorn being solid at full forward and Coghill patrolling half back.
Again the Swans seemed to have more run and the ability to switch the ball from the line and create a different angle, which then meant the final entry into the forward fifty was under less pressure.
Things blew out in the second half as the fitness and efficiency of Katunga overwhelmed the Hoppers.
Strawhorn kicked 4 goals.
Awards: Best: Ben Coghill, Chase Strawhorn
Award winners sponsored by Woods Bus Lines - David O’Dwyer, 2. Fern Aylward.
Reserves
Rennie 14.10.94 defeated Katunga 6.4.40.
The Hopper reserves got back into the winner's books after a great win against Katunga at home on the weekend.
The defenders stood strong with Alex Donovan and Kayne Hughes leading the way. Marcus VanMaanen was able to give the midfielders the first use of the footy in the ruck.
Mark Wilson and George McBurnie made their presences known in the midfield. Adrian Smith and Hayden Long made it count up forward, with both of them hitting the scoreboard.
A great win for the boys and hope to get back-to-back wins as the Lions play Berrigan next week.
Awards: Cellarbrations - Marcus Van Maanen, Lake Mulwala Bakery - Alex Donovan, Yarrawonga Hotel - Mark Wilson, ClubMulwala - Adrian Smith and Shayne Stiles Roofing - George McBurnie.
Thirds
Rennie 3.4.22 defeated by Katunga 13.14.92.
Rennie under 17s came up against Katunga Swans, one of the top teams and showed that they are on the right track.
Unfortunately, the first quarter was the worst as the Hoppers went into quarter time 5 goals down.
From there the Hoppers showed what they are made of and completed strongly against a highly rated much bigger opposition.
Xav Martin and Damon Murray were unbeatable in the backline, Tom Lovell and Jacob Doig were at every contest through the midfield, Rhys Lubley was given a tough job and beat a Swans gun player and Lach Kelly turned into a forward competing in the air all game and being rewarded with a couple of goals.
A good even effort from the lads who are on track for some wins in the near future.
Goals: L. Kelly 2, T. Lovel.
Best: T. Lovel, R. Ludbey, L. Kelly, D. Murray, J. Doig.

Rennie came up against a strong inform Katunga side on Saturday.
Although there was some really good-looking passages of play from the Rennie kids, they were unable to come away with a score for the day.
Strong marking and defence from Sienna and Blair slowed the forward pressure from Katunga and Finn B and Finn W again had great games through the midfield.

Under 11s
The Hoppers hosted the Katanga Swans on Saturday with another victory, outnumbering around the field.
Jack Bruce ran everywhere sharing the ball around with Miller Smith having a real go.
Hudson Crawford was strong up forward and Zack Briffa doing a lot of hard work from the packs.
Lenny Leguidi appeared to be everywhere sharing the ball also.
Was another great effort from the little Hoppers.

A great day was had by all who attended the 1983 reunion on Saturday and a great job by Robert Tait for its organisation.
Also in attendance was David O’Dwyer and Jim Sandral who both played in flags in the 50’s and John O’Dwyer who played in a premiership in the restricted comp during WWII in 1944.
The sun had set and it was super to see the “old boys’ still going hard, and lovely to see gun forward George Tobias pass on to current gun forward Chase Strawhorn his mounted footy from his 1000th goal.
Remember to diarise the club ball on Saturday, July 8 at ClubMulwala.
Off to Berrigan this week to take on the Saints then back at Mulwala Water Ski Club for awards.
