The Blue U12 team travelled over to Mansfield to take on Delatite. The hosts won the toss and sent the Bushies out for a bowl.
The opener for Delatite got off to a flying start and caused problems for the Bushies before finally being dismissed for a score of 40.
The rest of the host’s batting lineup didn’t trouble our Blue team and Lachie Osborne and Tom Lambert claimed two wickets each.
The bowler of the day was Dustin Nolan who bowled just the one over but ended up with a hat-trick of wickets and only giving away 1 run.
Final score:
U12 Blue – 4/92 (20)
Delatite – 10/61 (15.3)
U12 Red
The Red team faced Yarrawonga Rams on Saturday and were given the chance to bowl first. The Rams held steady and only lost 4 wickets for the game, Ollie Ross, Josh Hooper, Archer Pickering and Jack McKenzie sharing the load.
Chasing a total of 99 on home soil is a very achievable target and the Reds got off to a great start led by Jack McKenzie (19*). Archer Pickering was dominant with the bat making 26* and his brother, Hudson, kept the runs ticking over, contributing 13 of his own before retiring. However, the Red team fell just short of the run chase at the end of their 20 overs.
Final score:
U12 Red – 6/90
Yarrawonga Rams 4/99
U12 Green
Also facing off against a Yarrawonga side, the Green team travelled to meet the Lakers.
The Bushies won the toss and chose to bowl and although the runs off the bat weren’t that high, the extras didn’t work in the Bushies’ favour this week, contributing to 38 additional runs for the Lakers. Finlay Parker was tight for the day, bowling 1/1 off his two overs.
Jaxson Heatherill (14) and Matthew White (11) put their best performances together with the bat but some fierce bowling by the hosts made for a very difficult day on the park.
Final score:
U12 Green – 10/55 (10.2)
Yarrawonga Lakers – 4/104 (20)
U14 Blue
Back at Milawa, this time to have a bat, the U14 Blue team wasted no opportunity. Three batters stood up amongst the rest with Xavier DeFazio retiring on 51, Josh Montgomery retired for a season-high of 53 and Tom Snell, seeing out the overs, was unlucky to not get the half-century but walked away with 48*.
An impressive team performance and convincing winners in the end.
Final score:
U14 Blue – 7/221
Greta White – 9/82
U14 Red
Back over to Rutherglen, the Bushies finished off their overs with the bat due to the lightning delay from the week before. Solid performances from the Red batting line-up with Harry Skelton (32), Jack Hart (31) and Boden Hazell (24*) all helped the team to a very healthy target.
Coming in to bowl, the wickets were hard to come by at first but Boden Hazell (1/17) and Jack Hart (2/4) made the breakthrough with the first three wickets.
A change of keepers was the secret weapon and Angus Leovold, who bowled his first overs in over two seasons, picked up 2/15 with Noah Anderson helping clean up the tail end with 2/6.
Final score:
U14 Red – 6/145 (30)
Rutherglen – 7/102 (30)
U16
Day two against Delatite saw the Bushies having to defend their total from last week of 156.
Bryce Cooney (1/12) started strong, getting an early wicket to kick things off.
Mitchell Cooney came in late and bowled four overs to collect two wickets to his name.
It was a whole team effort with wickets also going to Riley McCarthy (1/9), Josh Hart (1/27) and Will Keen (1/21).
Final score:
U16 Bushies – 8/156
Delatite – 7/122
Seniors
A-Reserve
A-Reserve hosted Ovens Valley at the Gardens amongst a sea of pink in the club’s first Pink Stumps Day.
Winning the toss and choosing to bowl first the Bushies wasted no time in getting Ovens back to the sheds. Leigh Pollard showed the team why he’s a crowd favourite with 4/22 off 8 overs and George Lithgow picking up 2/2 off only 1.2 overs.
Needing to chase the target of 126, Vishal Sharma got the team off to a great start with 25 runs. Michael Honman and Ross Cavill were flawless in their campaigns, adding 50* and 51 respectively to the total.
Needing only 30 overs for the day, the Bushies A-Res side are looking dangerous heading into the last few weeks of the season.
Final score:
Bushies – 3/146 (30)
Ovens Valley – 10/126 (39.2)
B Grade
Over at the Showgrounds, the B-Grade side hosted Rutherglen and chose to have a bat first up.
Things looked shaky at the crease, Craig Williams holding steady with 23 and Matthew Priest (17*) the top scorers for the team.
After 25 overs, the Bushies only managed 76 runs and knew they’d have to bowl extra well to defend this total.
Paul Ivery and Brendan Duncombe showed a lifetime of experience with ball in hand, both picking up four wickets for a total of 24 runs between them. Nine of the Rutherglen batters couldn’t get past 10 runs and in a nail-biter, the Bushies were able to hold on.
Final score:
Bushies – 10/76 (25.5)
Rutherglen – 10/67 (22.5)
C-Grade Red
The Red C-Grade team were down at the Road End of Arundel hosting Yarrawonga. Choosing to have a bat first, the Bushies started strong. Jordan Smith (41) and Greg Hoysted (55*) made great inroads to their run total with Bryce Cooney contributing a very handy 17. After the 36 overs, the Bushies were looking to defend a healthy total of 122.
Yarrawonga’s opener saw out the full 36 overs for their side and ended up on 57* which gave the Bushies a few headaches. DJ Reddy did his best, bowling 1.4 overs and ending with 2/7.
It was a tight game, but unfortunately not the day for the home team.
Final score:
Bushies – 4/122 (36)
Yarrawonga – 4/123 (31.4)
C-Grade Blue
Coming up against the undefeated ladder leaders, Beechworth, is a formidable task in itself. The Bushies hosted Beechworth at the Lake End of Arundel and the visitors won the toss and chose to bat.
Mark Osborne kicked things off, bowling one of their openers out for 8. Josh Montgomery chimed in with another wicket and Jack and Steve Hart both picked up 1 each as well, Steve taking the wicket of their dangerous opener who finished on 52.
Spinner Josh Hart didn’t start great when he came on, with figures of 0/35 off his first 3 overs. Sam Hazell suggested the change of end and Josh answered the call picking up 6 wickets in his next 3 overs. Mark Osborne’s hands were blue by the end of the game after taking 3 great catches, one a bit of a juggling effort.
This was the first time all season the Beechworth team had been bowled out before the overs were done. A win in itself.
The hopes of a win rested on the shoulders of the Blue team’s experienced players but no one could really find the rhythm to get going. Enter Steve Hart. With a bit of a crowd and a body that was hurting, Steve put on a show, belting 3 sixes and getting under the skin of the Beechworth bowlers. He was supported by Josh Hart (18) and Josh Montgomery (14) before the team fell just short of a miracle win.
Credit to the Beechworth side who are gracious in victory and congratulated our young sons in the way they play.
Final score:
Bushies – 9/120 (36)
Beechworth – 10/133 (33.3)
