The Magpies were far from welcoming at Friendlies Oval when Katandra arrived, sending the Eagles home with a 136-run loss to stew over.
And by doing so, they broke off a piece of the underdog title they’ve worn for years now.
Now Euroa is back at the scene of the crime on Saturday, with Old Students heading south in search of its first win.
Gino Saracino’s men were valiant in defeat against Central Park, and shouldn’t feel hard done by from their loss against one of the Haisman’s premiership fancies.
However, what they should feel is a desire to lift.
Last season held plenty of promise for Old Students as its standout performers — the likes of Callan McCabe, Nick Breslin and Liam Callegari — had it looking like a side capable of anything, but one that never quite lived up to its expectations.
This considered, Saracino and co need to retrieve maximum points against Euroa if they are to be thrown into the same conversation as the competition’s top sides going forward.
On the other hand, Euroa has nothing to lose.
Having already knocked over Katandra, the Magpies — who were led gallantly by coach Andrew Squires (30) — can continue blooding some of their keen young prospects.
One mercurial talent to look out for is Josh Robertson, who seems destined for great heights following a classy 41 at the top of the order two weeks ago.
If others can follow the youngsters’ lead when Old Students show up, another upset could well be on the cards for Euroa.
