The Lakers scored their highest total of the Cricket Shepparton season on their way to delivering Karramomus a crushing 128-run defeat in the penultimate round of the season.
The dominant all-round performance sealed a spot in the finals with one round in the home-and-away campaign remaining.
Nagambie skipper Mark Nolan said he was proud of his charges’ efforts in the round 12 encounter at Nagambie Recreation Reserve.
“I thought it was a good all-round performance from the boys,” Nolan said.
“It was nice to see guys score runs, post a large partnership and to see guys bowl well. And from a team point of view, we posted our highest score of the season which was a great result.”
Nagambie elected to bat first and piled on a mammoth 3-220 from its 45 overs.
Nolan got his side off to a strong start with 32 runs, but two quick wickets soon left the home side 2-48.
However, classy half-centuries from Ben Tarran (84 not out) and Kyle Winter-Irving (79 runs) guided Nagambie to a commanding score.
The duo linked up for a whopping 167-run partnership.
“We were able to set a nice platform at the start and then to see Ben and Kyle push on after two quick wickets was really pleasing,” Nolan said.
“They both batted well in their partnership and really cashed in during those last 10 overs. I think they put on 90 runs in the final 10 overs which is what you want to be doing in one-day cricket.”
Nagambie's strong effort with the willow flowed into its fielding effort, as the ladder-leader restricted the Bloods to 9-92 from 45 overs.
Nathan Fothergill (3-17), Winter-Irving (2-15) and Brayden Biggs (2-20) all starred with the ball.
“It was a well-rounded effort with the ball. Karra batted quite defensively and put value on their wicket,” Nolan said.
“It was great to see Nathan grab a few wickets. He's been unlucky this season and I'm expecting him to grab a few more in the coming weeks.”
The emphatic result now has Nagambie occupying top spot on the ladder and unable to miss finals action.
But with a last round clash against Katandra to come, Nolan said his side would be aiming to finish on a high and secure the minor premiership.
“It's good to make finals again,” he said.
“But we want to finish on top of the ladder. We don't want to have to rely on other teams not winning, we want to get the win (next week) and finish in first spot.
“We know that with COVID-19 anything can happen and we want to make sure we can end the year in top spot.”
THE GAME
Nagambie 3-220 (Ben Tarran 84 not out, Kyle Winter-Irving 79 not out, Mark Nolan 32) d Karramomus 9-92 (Nathan Fothergill 3-17, Kyle Winter-Irving 2-15, Brayden Biggs 2-20)
STAR PLAYER
Kyle Winter-Irving (Nagambie): Winter-Irving edges out teammate Ben Tarran for star player selection due to his 79-run knock and 2-15 outing. The Nagambie all-rounder averages a tick more than 42 with the bat and has collected 11 scalps this season. The rest of the competition will be hoping this form doesn't roll into finals action.
