The winless Swans return to Princess Park on Saturday night for a round three blockbuster against Shepparton United.
Hawke's charges have recorded two losses by more than 10 goals in the opening fortnight of Goulburn Valley League action.
“On the surface, our scores against Benalla and Kyabram probably don't reflect how we have played in those games,” Hawke said.
“We learnt in the first game that we can't play one good half of footy, while against Kyabram we competed in two quarters.
“I think the group is starting to understand that we need to perform in all four quarters if we want to see the right results.”
And the Swans get their chance to offer up a strong performance on a big stage on Saturday night.
It will be the club's first night game following the installation of state-of-the-art lights at Princess Park.
Hawke highlighted the benefits a win to his young brigade in front of a packed crowd on a historic night.
“This game is important for us. We are only two games in, but we are at a stage now where a win will really boost the confidence,” he said.
“It's amazing what one win can do.
“And it's the club's first night game under the new lights which brings plenty of excitement.
“We have our sponsors night on and it will be a great atmosphere down there.”
Hawke hinted that up-and-coming talent Diesel Batey could be rewarded for his sublime performances in the under-18s.
Batey could be one of three changes the Swans make.
Gun defender Andrew Riordan missed last weekend's loss, while on-baller Jessie Finnen could make his first appearance this season.
With an eye on their opposition, Hawke touched on the importance of curtailing United's midfield stocks.
Young star Kyle Clark was best afield for the Dees last weekend, while potent ruckman Shane Neaves made a solid return to the field.
“United look really even across the board,” Hawke said.
“We need to control their forward line and make sure we can get on top of their midfield. I suspect Neaves will be important for them around the stoppages.”
● The senior game will begin at 7pm at Princess Park.
