Local rivalries are aplenty in the first weekend of competition, and each club will be looking to start its season on a high.
At Rochester, the home side will battle fierce rival Echuca in a match-up that never fails to entertain.
With a mix of young and old, the Tigers will be up against it, taking on the Bombers, with Echuca only losing one game last season.
Despite the daunting task ahead, Rochester A-Grade coach Rachel Whipp said the side was excited for round one.
“Echuca are always tough, they are a very well-structured team but we’ve had a really good pre-season, played some great practice matches and it’s all looking very positive,” Whipp said.
“Echuca and Rochester are big rivals and it is a great way to start the year and everyone is looking forward to hopefully getting in a full season.”
Whipp said there were a number of players that supporters should look out for, including Teal Hocking and Charlee Roulston who came up from the under-17s and Tess Ringin who has returned to the A-grade side.
“We’re really looking forward to it, we’ve got a great mix of youth and experience that are combining really well,” she said.
It will be a big day for the Tigers, with committed club person Naomi Riordan playing her 200th game in the B-reserve side.
Rochester will host Echuca at home at 2.15pm on Saturday.
In the other GVL games kicking off at 2.15pm, Tatura will take on Kyabram at home and the Shepparton Bears will host Mooroopna.
Seymour will be looking to kick off its 2019 title retention against Benalla and Euroa will play Mansfield.
At a later start time of 6.45pm, the Shepparton Swans will take on a strong Shepparton United side at home.
