The 22-year-old midfielder will arrive at McEwen Reserve in time for the Suns’ upcoming National Premier League Two charge — and his resume speaks for itself.
Hamilton has had stints with Athlone Town, Bohemians and Shamrock Rovers in the League of Ireland and will likely fill the void left by outgoing countryman Shane Dunne. who has departed to pursue footballing opportunities overseas.
“I think Jamie will bring some creative flair in the final third — he is very versatile and can play in a number of positions which will add depth to the squad,” Suns coach Craig Carley said.
“He is very hard-working and loves to get on the ball and make things happen, so we look forward to seeing what he can do in Suns colours.”
A St Kevin’s Boys graduate, Hamilton brings international experience to the Goulburn Valley having donned the emerald green of the Ireland National Team at youth level.
“Jamie had a very bright junior career and was a huge prospect as a schoolboy — he was an Irish international at all youth ages coming through,” Carley said.
“He seems to have a fantastic attitude in that he is a winner and has played at the highest level with 30-plus games in the League of Ireland; he’s also a great age at 22.”
While Hamilton is yet to land down under, the Suns’ pre-season has tracked along steadily.
The men in orange began with a bang, smashing Bendigo City 6-1 earlier this month before locking horns 2-2 with a strong Football Empowerment side.
“Pre-season has been tracking pretty well; it’s been brilliant to see some of the younger players really step up in the senior environment and I look forward to exposing them to senior NPL2 competition this season,” Carley said.
“So far it’s been nothing too intense this side of Christmas, but the club has been working very hard behind the scenes and that’s something I am very grateful for as senior coach.
“We have all our visa positions locked in and I am really happy that we have managed to retain the majority of last season’s squad.
“Hopefully we can continue to push on as a club and push more of these younger players into the senior environment.”
The NPL2 draw was released on December 22, revealing the Suns’ first opponent as Manningham United Blues on March 19 at McEwen Reserve, Shepparton.
