Joe was ranked seventh and Mary eighth at the end of the 2023-24 season, having bowled as skip and third in the same Kyabram rink team that made it all the way to the preliminary final before being beaten by eventual premier Shepparton Golf.
Another member of their foursome, Rob Anset, was the 12th ranked player in the competition at the end of the season. They were the only Kyabram players ranked in the top 20 for the top midweek division.
Kyabram won the semi final by nine shots against Shepparton Park, the Grecos, Anset and Chris Williams winning that game 21-17.
Although Kyabram lost the preliminary final by six, the Grecos, Anset and Williams won their rink by a shot.
Williams led for Noel Reddrop in both the weekend and midweek division one pennant games to start this year. On the weekend John Hausler was his skip.
He had a great season in 2023-24, the number one ranked division two weekend pennant bowler with an 11-3 record - matched by another Kyabram bowler Des Campbell and with Maurice Hateley ranked third.
The Grecos are bowling with Chris Preddy as their second in 2024-25, with Anset remaining as the lead bowler.
Joe and Mary Greco have started this season on separate rinks in the division one weekend pennant team, but last year were ranked 28th (Mary) and 75th (Joe) at the end of the division two weekend pennant season.
– Kyabram’s division one midweek team has played only one game and had the round two game with Shepparton Park moved to Friday, November 8 under a rule allowing a club with two or more players unavailable to move the game.
There is no midweek pennant on Tuesday, November 5 (Melbourne Cup day), which means the game will be the only one in the competition that week.
– Kyabram pennant bowlers Mary Greco and Jenny Dixon have been selected among 24 women to represent the Goulburn Valley Playing Area in the Rowland-Sutcliffe Trophy.
They will face representative teams from the Murray Playing Area at Shepparton Golf Bowling Club on Sunday, November 10 before the GV squad is cut to 16 for a December 1 challenge against the Ovens & Murray Bowls Region.
Rob George and the Boswood brothers, Charlie and Henry, are among the 23-member men’s team that will compete in the trophy.
– Stanhope’s promotion to the top midweek pennant competition will not be fully tested until round four when they meet reigning premier Echuca.
The Stanhope team, which won promotion by taking out the 2023-24 division two competition, had a bye in round one and then beat Mathoura by 10 shots in round two (Mathoura finished fourth last season).
They have Rochester in the next game, fifth last year, then have the reigning premier on November 12. Two weeks later they have the other grand finalist, Moama Steamers, which lost the grand final by just two shots.
