Greater Shepparton City Council could use their help.
Nominations are open and will close May 24 for members of the community who are interested in joining the Greater Shepparton Sports Hall of Fame Advisory Committee.
The successful applicants that join the committee will help decide which of Shepparton’s greatest athletes or members of the sporting community will join the Hall of Fame during the next induction ceremony, which is scheduled to be in 2025.
There have been 43 inductees into the Greater Shepparton Sports Hall of Fame since its inception in 2017, demonstrating the region’s ability to produce world-class athletes and its longstanding connection to sport.
The athletes or sporting figures recognised in the Hall of Fame are from a wide range of sports, including cycling, AFL, weightlifting, lawn bowls, pistol shooting, netball, golf and many more.
Some of the athletes include Collingwood footballer Steele Sidebottom, former Australian women’s cricket captain Raelee Thompson and Shepparton’s first Olympian boxer Max Carlos.
Mayor Shane Sali hopes that any Greater Shepparton residents with a great interest in the region’s sporting history will nominate for the committee.
“The aim of the Sports Hall of Fame is to recognise and celebrate our local sporting history, as well as individuals and teams who have achieved sporting excellence and made a significant contribution to their chosen sport,” he said.
“With the nominations being extended, now is the perfect opportunity for community members with a keen interest in sporting activities across Greater Shepparton and the people who make our local sport so great, to be a part of this important committee.
“I encourage anyone interested to apply.”
Nomination forms and further information are available on the Greater Shepparton website.
