The Victorian Government’s Sporting Club Grants Program announced a list of clubs and organisations from across the region which had been deemed eligible within one of four categories in Round 1.
Local sporting bodies were able to apply for grants in the realms of on-field uniforms (up to $1000), volunteers and officials (up to $5000), access and engagement (up to $1000 for hands-on resources or $4000 for program deliverance) or travel and registration costs (up to $750).
In total, 15 clubs and groups within the City of Greater Shepparton area received handouts across a vast range of disciplines.
Of those, 12 were recipients of the on-field uniform grant stream, including Cricket Shepparton competitors Karramomus and Katandra.
Goulburn Valley Playing Area sides Tallygaroopna and Merrigum were others to receive this grant, while Greater Shepparton Basketball Association and Goulburn Valley Volleyball collected on volunteer and official funds.
Finally, another big bowls name in Shepparton Park was successful in receiving the accommodation amount.
“This program is always popular amongst local clubs and athletes, as it’s supporting them to have what they need to take part in the sports they love,” State Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes said in a statement.
Victorian Community Sport Minister Ros Spence hailed the program’s effects on junior engagement and participation.
“This is a major boost for clubs across the state — we’re making sure clubs have the skills and equipment they need to thrive and get more people involved,” Spence said in a statement.
“We want our local sporting clubs to be backing the next generation of local champions — and these grants provide them the chance to do just that.”
