The region’s best bowlers descended on Wunghnu Bowls Club at the weekend for the highly anticipated Goulburn Murray Bowls Region finals.

Players from both the Goulburn Valley and Murray playing areas battled it out under blue skies, with the prize of a trip to state week in Bendigo on the line.
Stacey Collier continued her golden run in the singles, knocking off Finley’s Karen Peacock, 26-9, to become the region’s women’s champion of champions.
In the men’s singles competition, Berrigan’s Paul Glanvill put an end to Neil Swanston’s fairytale story, prevailing 25-6 over the Dookie product.
When it came to mixed pairs, Dianne Hands and Matthew Robertson prevailed for Goulburn Valley, delivering a 19-16 win over Murray pair Ross Higgins and Jenny O’Connor.
Tatura-Hill Top trio Dianne Downie, Naomi Cartwright and Olivia Cartwright delivered another victory for the GV in the women’s triples, getting the better of Jenny Warfe, Loris Houlihan and Ieva Saunders in a hard-fought 19-11 encounter.
In the men’s pairs, Shepparton Golf pair Wayne Dagger and Brad Orr were clinical in their efforts against Barry Cosgrove and Joe Luci, coming away with a 19-12 victory to book their ticket to Bendigo.
Tallygaroopna squad Mitch Sidebottom, Mark Ryan, Matthew Robertson and Dave Daws continued their golden fortnight, backing up an Allan Matheson Shield premiership triumph with a dominant 25-4 win in the men’s fours over Wunghnu’s Peter Revell, Graham King, Trevor Hosie and Doug Larkin.
The remaining Goulburn Murray Bowls Region playing area finals will take place this weekend at Numurkah Golf and Bowls Club.
The day will feature women’s and men’s state singles, women’s pairs, women’s fours and men’s triples.
All winners from these region finals will travel to Bendigo for state week, slated to take place from Saturday, April 30, to Sunday, May 8.
