The Gators led by three points at quarter-time, but a dominate second quarter from the home side in which Warrandyte sunk 21 points to seven, meant the Venom led 40-29 at half-time.
The Gators piled on 42 points to 27 in the second half with Dylan Wayman (17 points), Nick Dodd (16), Sam Beks (12) and Matt Bartlett (12) instrumental in the 71-67 win.
Gators coach Josh Waight said it was pleasing to see the team fight it out until the end.
“The most pleasing thing was we stuck at it,” Waight said.
“We could have thrown the towel in, but it shows that if you stick at it good things can happen.
“They got it out to 11 points early in the last quarter, but our boys showed their resilience and it was a great win.”
Waight was happy with his team's spread of shooters.
“The spread of scorers is great as it makes us harder to defend,” he said.
“We have the utmost confidence that we all can score and Tom Frame had nine rebounds, which was fantastic as well.”
The Gators face another double-header this weekend, playing a winless Melbourne Uni at home on Saturday night, before travelling to Geelong Arena to take on Corio Bay on Sunday.
