On well-manicured grass-covered Numurkah courts, the Velvet Tigers (top of the ladder) would have headed into their round four fixture against Numurkah Warriors brimming with confidence.
Last year’s reigning premier Numurkah had struggled to start the 2024-25 season by losing the first three matches, including a 9-79 to 3-49 loss to the Tigers in round one.
However, on their home court, the Warriors got the early jump on the Tigers.
Numurkah won four of the six singles sets to take a commanding lead halfway through the match.
The Warriors then stormed home to win five out of the six doubles sets and claim a dominant upset victory.
Numurkah won the match 9-84 to 3-62.
In the other division one match, Shepparton Lawn Average Joes defeated Shepparton Lawn The Valley in a tight clash.
The first six sets were split evenly at three apiece.
Across the following four rubbers, Average Joes made their move, winning three out of the four sets.
From there, Average Joes never looked back and sailed away to victory.
The result finished 5-69 to 7-71.
Velvet Tigers remain on top of the ladder, followed closely by Average Joes and The Valley.
The Warriors, after a sluggish start to the summer, are in last place.
News photographer Rechelle Zammit was on hand to catch the match between Numurkah Warriors and Velvet Tigers.
