Mathew Macansh shone with the ball for his new club in Tatura’s gritty two-wicket win over Karramomus in round five of Cricket Shepparton’s Haisman Shield.
Macansh claimed impressive figures of 4-27, with the medium pacer using the dry and challenging pitch at Vibert Reserve to his advantage.
Saturday’s one-day win catapults Tatura into eighth spot on the ladder ahead of the upcoming two-day fixtures.
Tatura coach Daniel Coombs was pleased to hold on to the Kilmartin Shield, in memory of former Karra and Tatura club icon Rod Kilmartin, for another year.
“That’s three in a row now since I have been coaching,” Coombs said.
“Every game has been close, there’s close margins between the teams and it’s always been a good tight game for both of us.
“It’s always been a good game and it’s played in really good spirits. We hang around with the Karra boys and have a drink to celebrate Rod who had a big impact on both clubs.
Coombs highlighted that the “tricky” conditions made it difficult for batters to “get in” during their innings.
He was happy with his side’s bowling display and applauded the efforts of Macansh ― who has crossed to Tatura from Mooroopna ― and youngster Nick Watt.
Mathew Macansh (Tatura): It was a cracking debut appearance in A-grade for Macansh. He broke an important partnership before he collected the next two wickets in quick fashion as Karra suffered a mini 3-8 collapse. Macansh finished with classy figures of 4-27 off his seven overs - two of those dismissals coming via caught and bowled.
“It’s nice to go back-to-back and make up for those first three losses. Hopefully it gets us back in contention to push into the top six,” Coombs said.
“It wasn’t easy conditions; the wicket was dry, there was plenty of variable bounce, it was hard to score runs, it was pretty challenging.
“(Matty) bowled really well. He’s really consistent and he bowls nice line-and-length and made it tricky for them to score.
“He got dropped when he batted, but he did the job at the end ... it was a great debut for him.
“We lost wickets continually (in the run chase), but we kept up with the run-rate. Nick ran really well between the wickets and he came in with us still needing four an over and made it pretty manageable and it was a good knock from him.”
