To highlight this week’s edition of Saturday Sundries, there were upsets, terrific tons, bedazzling bags and plenty more.

A D-grade final between third-placed Old Students and fourth-placed Numurkah went down to the wire.
Batting first away from home, Numurkah posted a competitive first innings total of 8-161 after its 40 overs.
Four of the Blues' top five batters made it past 22 runs, with veteran Rodney Jackson the best of the lot with a well-made 40 off 57 balls.
Old Students’ Ryan Boswell was tidy with the ball (2-12 from eight overs), but was outshone by Ross Hammer who finished with figures of 4-26 from his seven.
However, the star and match-winner was Numurkah’s Dustan Ebborn who claimed 5-42 from eight overs to break through Old Students and lead his side to a tight seven-run win.
Ebborn has been in a serious run of form in recent weeks taking 19 wickets from his past four one-day matches.
B-grade flag favourite stumbles
In a fight between first and sixth, the latter came out on top at the weekend.
Ladder leader Numurkah has been the team to beat all season long in B-grade.
The Blues didn’t drop one match during the home and away season and won the one-day final against Central Park-St Brendan’s with relative ease.
However, at the weekend, a plucky Tatura side proved the age-old theory: if it bleeds, you can kill it.
On its home deck, Numurkah was rolled for 123 chasing Tatura’s first innings total of 155.
The upset victory means Tatura moves on to face Nagambie, while Numurkah must recover quickly to take down former A-grade side Northerners in a preliminary final if it is to qualify for the grand final.
B-grade’s flag race has just been blown wide open.
Northerners’ Stuart produces a not-so-little knock
At home, on the first day of B-grade finals, Northerners found themselves sitting uncomfortably at 4-22 against a confident Karramomus side.
As the team scrambled to look for a hero to help it see the light, one man stood tall: Stuart Turner.
Northerners’ middle-order batter ground his way to a well-made and match-winning ton.
Scoring 100 not out off 197 balls, Turner took his side from being on the verge of a collapse to a first innings total of 9-209.
Northerners’ bowlers did the rest the following day and the hosts won the match by 95 runs, but all plaudits should be directed Turner’s way for his stunning knock.
Tatura gun makes Pine Lodge throw in the ‘Dowell’
As Pine Lodge opener Steven Van Taarling belted most of Tatura’s bowlers around the park during Saturday’s D-grade final, there was one man he couldn’t get the better of.
Tatura’s Xavier Dowell opened the bowling and was on a mission from the get-go.
While Van Taarling caused plenty of headaches, scoring a quickfire 82 not out from 76 deliveries, it was Dowell who won his side the match.
The gun bowler took 5-12 from five overs as he ripped through Pine Lodge’s top order, taking the first five wickets of the innings.
Tatura went on to win the match by 57 runs and advance to the next round of finals.
Candy makes Saturday extra sweet for Katandra
Katandra secured a spot in this Saturday’s E-grade grand final after a dominant performance at home from its master blaster number three.
The Eagles’ Shaun Candy came into the preliminary final against Kyabram in fine form, scoring back-to-back 50s to finish off the home and away season.
But Candy quickly turned sour for the Redbacks as he went berserk with the willow, belting seven fours and 10 sixes on the way to 103 runs from 65 balls.
Candy’s quick-fire ton boosted Katandra to a first innings total of 289 and helped secure his side a spot in the grand final against Nagambie this weekend.
