Rumbalara, coming off a tough assignment against reigning premier Echuca, hosted Barooga in an arm wrestle before shaking off the gallant Hawks at Mercury Drive.
Helped by five goals from Marlee Gunderson and buoyed by the return of Jessica Bamblett to the line-up, Rumba slammed home six final-quarter goals to run away 10.7 (67) to 1.1 (7) winners, notching their first win of the year.

At Tatura Park, Shepparton United continued its dominant start to the season with a runaway win over the Bulldogs.
The Demons booted 7.0 in the first quarter to set up a 93-point win over the Bulldogs, backing up last round’s 113-point rout of Mansfield.
Paige Baksh slotted four goals in a strong display from the 2024 runner-up league goal-kicker, while Rebecca Monk and Molly Kennedy were influential for the ladder-leading United side.
Just below them on the ladder, Echuca improved to 2-0 after dismantling Mansfield by 52 points.
Kate Dixon (three goals) and Sienna Lee (two) helped lay the groundwork for the 8.5 (53) to one behind result.
The up-and-coming stars of the league were also in a destructive mood, with the Youth Girls competition launched in full.
A much-improved Shepparton Swans took it up to Nathalia at Deakin Reserve, but the Purples held their nerve to notch a 39-point victory in their first match of the season.
Meanwhile, Shepparton United made the trip up the highway to tackle reigning premier Echuca United, with a plucky Demons outfit falling by 59 points.
Across the border, Moama claimed its second consecutive win, Zoe McCallum backing up her six-goal haul last round with four this time around as the Pies won by 39 points.
