Supporters were treated to four entertaining matches on the day, with Victorian Premier League clubs Essendon and Camberwell strutting their stuff on the turf of the Shepparton Hockey Complex.
In the senior men’s clash, Camberwell defeated Essendon 5-3, while in the senior women’s game it was Essendon that had the upper hand, producing a 4-1 win.
Meanwhile in the reserves Camberwell won big, with the women’s team winning 4-2 and the men running out 9-2 victors over an Essendon side featuring Strikers Hockey Club’s Nathan and Xavier McBain.
GVHA publicity officer Michael van Dorsser said it was a successful event.
“There was a fantastic crowd, raffle prizes were won and a lot of people were very happy with what happened across the day,” he said.
“Both clubs were very happy with how the day went and talking to some Camberwell players they were very impressed with our facilities.”
Van Dorsser said he hoped the event’s success would see Premier League hockey return to the region, with a statewide regional round something that could be on the cards.
He thanked the Greater Shepparton City Council and volunteers for their work organising the event, along with GVHA president Cameron Druitt.
With an action-packed day on the agenda, News photographer Rechelle Zammit headed down to the event to capture all the action.
