The cause? A superb premiership victory that landed it Shepparton District Tennis Association’s section two flag on Saturday.
Heading into the weekend’s grand finale against Shepparton North at Central Park Tennis Club, Karramomus entered as the season-long benchmark with a handsome 8-2-2 record and a minor premiership to boot.
Sport, however, can be a fickle beast, and one game can derail a season’s worth of graft.

That was not on Karramomus’ bingo card.
In an epic north versus south showdown, Karramomus swung the hardest in a consummate display to emerge with a 7-49 to 2-33 triumph.
Shepparton North was in the match early, but as time ticked by and the rubbers drew out, a gettable game soon began to slip through the Northerners’ grasp.
Karramomus’ Scott Lucas and John Gagiano bested Mark Jackson and Elliot Pritchett 6-5 in the opening tie, but North fought back hard to claim the following two rubbers.
From there, Tam Corrigan and Steph Veal lowered their feet to the pedal as they each featured three times as Karramomus claimed the ensuing six rubbers by comfortable margins.
The victory marks Karramomus’ first flag since its A2 premiership in the 2021-22 season.

In other major awards, the association crowned its players of the year with the men’s prize handed to Karramomus’ Scott Lucas, while the women’s gong was split between Shepparton North’s Megan Carr and Murchison’s Narelle Gregory.
“(It feels) amazing (to receive the honour),” Carr said.
“I believe it was a four-way tie and then they did a countback.
“I am absolutely stoked and honoured to win that because there are so many great players that play. It is something that I will treasure.”

Meanwhile, current president Murray Akers was bestowed life membership for his dedication and service to the association, as well as a long-standing commitment to the sport in general.
