Wednesday’s opening day began with a bang as the skilful, short-format spectacle of Hockey5s kicked off the championships in style.
In one of the final games of the day, a North West Lightning under-12 girls side speckled with Goulburn Valley talents took on North West Metro Tigers in Pool A.
However, the cityslickers emerged victorious with a 6-1 win, the Lightning’s sole goal arriving via an Ava Dalley strike.
News photographer Megan Fisher was in attendance at the smurf turf to snap the action.
