The day had the crowning of each weekend division’s premier for season 2024-25, with Shepparton Golf obviously claiming the top gong as the Allan Matheson Shield winner at Euroa.
There was plenty more action around the traps, including for Golf, as six other titles were on the line.
The Golfers had the chance to do a one-two double in contesting the second-tier final opposite Seymour VRI in a Matheson Shield curtain-raiser and two rink wins plus a draw would have ordinarily been cause for optimism.
However, Brendan Challis produced the performance of a lifetime in his rink against Richard Warburton to turn the tide in phenomenal fashion.
The 35-7 result produced by his quartet was the only individual success on the morning for VRI, but it was more than enough to deliver a division two premiership through a 13-84 to 5-65 triumph.
With that, VRI earned promotion to the weekend pennant in season 2025-26, a far cry from discussions around clubs in its geographical area potentially setting sail from the GVPA.
In division three, Shepparton Park and Mooroopna travelled west to Hill Top Bowls Club for their big dance, where the Kialla natives proved far too good in a big 16-99 to 2-67 grand final win.
Staying at the same venue, it was a much longer road trip for Alexandra and Euroa to do battle in the division four finale.
It was the High Country outfit which would take the chocolates back down the Hume, though, as Greg Gilmore’s rink made the difference in a 15-85 to 3-70 victory.
Shepparton Park hosted the division five clash between Yea and Kyabram.

Having claimed a lower-division midweek title last Tuesday, the Bombers would repeat the dose after surviving in a tight 14-60 to 2-57 affair to claim the title.
Park also set the stage for the grand finals in divisions six and seven as Nagambie claimed the former, too strong for Violet Town in a comfortable 14-72 to 2-43 success, while Rushworth scooped the latter after preventing Kyabram claiming a Saturday double by coasting home 12-41 to 4-27.
