The Australian represented his nation at two Olympics, played in America's NBA for the Dallas Mavericks and the Chicago Bulls and suited up for over 300 games in the NBL, with a notable spell at the Melbourne Tigers.
After being involved with the SEDA program for a number of years, Anstey said when the school asked him to come to Shepparton, he was happy to oblige.
“I was more than happy to make the effort,” Anstey said.
“The SEDA program is incredibly beneficial for so many kids; its values and what it teaches them is super important and I’m just happy to be involved in whatever way I can.”
A different style of learning, SEDA is a Year 11 and 12 school centred on sport, with students gaining VCAL and VET qualifications in an engaging and exciting way.
An ambassador for the program, Anstey said he hoped the students took plenty away from the session.
“If something resonated with just one of the kids I would be very happy,” he said.
“The theme of my presentation was about just taking opportunities, whether it is being on the floor with Michael Jordan or something as simple as saying yes to something, life is all about the opportunities in front of you.
“So I hope the kids can take that lesson on board, and more importantly I just hope everyone had fun.”
