Kialla Park Old Students was set to take on Central Park and McEwen Reserve was slated to face Shepparton North in the pennant competition, but both games were called off due to the association’s heat policy.
Likewise, Saturday’s A1/A2 clash between St Brendan’s and Shepparton North was also called off, as were the A3 matches between Shepparton North Red and Central Park and McEwen Reserve and Shepparton North Gold.
But while there were a slew of cancellations, a handful of games were still able to go ahead.
Playing on Friday night, McEwen Reserve Green edged past Lemnos 5-44 to 4-39.
The two teams were neck-and-neck for the entire match, but two crucial 6-2 wins – one by Kerry Walker and Helen Malcolm and the other by Malcolm and Kylie Reither – helped McEwen Reserve Green get over the line.
Its clubmate McEwen Reserve Red was in fine form, defeating Murchison Blue in dominant fashion 9-54 to 0-17.
Red sits in second spot on the A1/A2 behind Shepparton North, but just ahead of Green in third.
In the other A1/A2 clash that went ahead, this time on Saturday, Murchison Gold topped Karramomus 8-53 to 1-18.
It was a key win for Gold, which now moves inside the top four.
In the lone A3 fixture to hit the court, Kialla Park Old Students were too good for St Andrew’s, prevailing 8-52 to 1-33.
News photographer Rechelle Zammit was there to capture the action as Kialla Park earned its seventh win of the season.
It was a handy result for Kialla Park which jumped ahead of St Andrew’s on the ladder following Saturday’s resounding victory.
