Brett finished with 8-0 off 3.1 overs which left his side to score just seven runs to get the win.
In their run chase, the Jets finished the game in four balls with Lloyd Akers smashing two boundaries to end Murchison’s pain swiftly in almost certainly the quickest and most decisive defeat in Cricket Shepparton history.
For Murchison, Caleb Turvey top scored with five runs, while eight of his teammates were dismissed for ducks — three of them the dreaded golden duck.
Brett’s sublime haul included a four-wicket maiden and a two-wicket maiden — and was finished off with a hat-trick — but he modestly played down his role in the mismatch.
He said Murchison was a young and inexperienced side that wouldn’t be a chopping block when a lot of its players matured.
A former A-grade player with nearly 300 games with the Northerners at the time, Brett’s previous best figures were 7-26 in a B-grade match against Waaia during the 2019-20 season.
The Jets went on to win the D-grade premiership this season, with Brett best afield in the decider, while the veteran also claimed the league bowling average (30 wickets at 4.83) and was included in the Team of the Year as the all-rounder (313 runs and 30 wickets in the regular season).
NEXT UP IN GUS UNDERWOOD’S FREAKISH SPORTING FEATS: Kyle Mueller (football)
He’s arguably the best all-round sportsman in the Goulburn Valley at the moment, excelling at both cricket and football.
The man of few words who would prefer to let his actions display his uncanny and exciting ability at both these sports.
But it’s football where he produced one of his now many Freakish Sporting Feats.
Last year when playing for Congupna Football Club in the Murray league he had 16 shots on goal in a game against Barooga – and nailed 15 of them.
That’s why he is called The Wiz.
