With the Kyabram skipper compiling his fourth century and taking his Haisman Shield season tally to 762 runs, the home side has set ladder leader Central Park St Brendan’s a chase of 270 runs on the last day of the final home-and-away round this Saturday.
By his standards, Mueller played a subdued innings early to make sure Kyabram got runs on the board after winning the toss and batting.
His first 50 uncharacteristically contained only three boundaries and his innings of 130 off 174 deliveries eventually featuring nine fours and two sixes.
Stifling heat finally took its toll on the prolific run maker, who holed out on the boundary totally exhausted on the second last delivery of the Kyabram innings.
After a good start from openers Billy McLay (28) and Cade Mueller (19), Kyle Mueller and Paul Parsons were the only other batters to post handy scores as Kyabram amassed 269 off 79.5 of its 80 overs.
Parsons made the second top score of the Kyabram innings with 46 off 101 balls, with six boundaries.
Brendan Scott was the visitor’s hardest worker and most successful bowler, with his marathon 25.5-over spell producing figures of 4/97.
Dwain Vidler and Mitch Brett were the only other multiple wicket takers, each with two.
• Kyabram’s B-grade side is in a solid position to post a win in its last appearance for the season, making 222 on the back of a brilliant innings of 96 from Paul Wickham.
Wickham faced 142 deliveries and struck 14 boundaries in his commanding knock.
Openers Jason Parsons (41) and Jason Leocato (37) got the Kyabram innings away to a good start before Wickham made his mark.
Rhys Parsons also showed he is a promising youngster, making 23 to give Kyabram’s total a late boost.
In reply, the home side was 0/8, needing 215 this Saturday to win the game.
• Kyabram’s E-grade side came up an agonising one run short of chasing down Karramomus’ total of 166.
‘Blast from the Past’ Dino Letizia took 4/8 off four overs to keep Kyabram in the game before Andrew Porch (31), Ross Brown (32) and young talent Jack Halstead (18) provided the bulk of the Kyabram score.
