More than 100 swimmers from across 11 clubs converged on the Finley Swimming Pool on Saturday.
On a day where temperatures threatened to exceed 40°C, travelling and local swimmers were up for some competitive and enjoyable time in the pool.
“We had over 130 registered swimmers, including 36 from our club,” Finley Amateur Swim Club president Leanna Loughridge said.
“We had loads of swimmers receive PBs (personal bests), and also many swimmers with gold, silver or bronze medals in individual events.”
Finley Amateur Swim Club’s efforts in the pool saw them take out the overall points scores for boys and girls.
Following the competitive swimming events, the supporters and swimmers were in for a real treat when the fastest swimmers in the 50m freestyle had the chance to compete for a cash prize.
“To cap off the day we had a 'Dash for Cash', which is a handicapped race where the fastest 50m freestyle swimmers (boys and girls) in each age raced for a cash prize.
“There is nothing quite like watching a tiny swimmer turning at the 25m mark for their second lap before the fastest swimmer even gets to dive in.
“The crowd were on their feet and very invested in the race.
“We had several Finley swimmers win cash prizes, including Arthur MacLean, Samuel Hay, Chelsea Kennedy and Bethany Loughridge.”
Loughridge said the feedback on the event and the condition of the pool was very positive, and the feeling around the meet was “one of competition, respect and enjoyment”.
