The game started on Tuesday evening and will continue tomorrow after Fire Brigade ended the home and away season with six straight wins, courtesy of a 10-wicket win against Tongala.
After choosing to bat Tongala lasted just 14.1 overs as Max Stockdale, Sam Chapman, Jake Hubble and Isaac Grealy helped to restrict Tongala to 58 runs.
Bryce Kay’s not out 12 late in the innings and Jordan Reid’s 12 at the top of the order were the only double figure contributions.
Grealy removed key Tongala players River Townsend and Hugo Monnich Vo in the space of five balls, while Hubble took two of his three wickets in the same over. He finished with 3-1 from two overs.
Fire Brigade took just eight overs to score the winning runs, Antonio Depasquale scoring 26 from 15 balls (four boundaries and a six), while Hubble completed a great night with 18 retired and Charlie Pekin was 16 not out (including three boundaries) at the end of the innings.
If Fire Brigade wins the semi-final against Echuca they will play either Moama or Rochester in the grand final at Echuca South on February 25 and 27.
- Riley Nicholson has produced the innings of the Kyabram Redbacks under-14 A-grade season, falling just six runs shy of scoring an unbelievable century.
Despite the effort the Redbacks’ season is over after they scored 182 runs from 42.5 overs in their effort to chase down the massive Old Students-Numurkah score of 9-231, from day one of the game.
Nicholson smashed an amazing seven boundaries and eight sixes (76 runs in boundaries) in his 94-run total from just 71 deliveries.
That included back-to-back sixes in the 40th over and a boundary from the first three deliveries of the over, having retired in the 29th over and returned with one Fire Brigade wicket remaining.
Nicholson and Georgia Leonard added 47 for the last wicket, Leonard finishing 11 not out from 27 deliveries.
Jack Halstead scored 21 at the top of the order and Flynn Burrows scored 20 runs from 33 deliveries in the middle order.
- Kyabram Fire Brigade’s under-17 team will face Lockington-Bamawm United in the grand final on Sunday at Moama Recreation Reserve after beating Rochester in the semi-final on Sunday.
After winning the toss and batting the team finished on 4-203 after 40 overs, half centuries from Wil Harrison (off 66 balls) and Hamish Stewart (50 off 51) setting the tone.
Riley Carver (36) and Oscar Carver (34) also did their bit, then the latter took 5-18 off 6.5 overs to be the pick of the bowlers.
Rochester fell well short of the Fire Brigade total in the run chase, all out for 111.
- Tongala’s Pyke twins stood tall against the odds as their GMC under-13 team suffered its first loss for 2025 against Echuca South.
Lucas Pyke struck 29 from just 24 deliveries, including five boundaries, while brother Kane scored 27 not out from 21 deliveries as the pair were the last men standing for Tongala.
Tongala will now play its final game of the season against Leitchville Gunbower tonight at Brose Reserve after losing the final home and away round last week.
The side was unable to chase down the Echuca total of 2-116, losing their last eight wickets for just 27 runs to be all out for 91.
After Echuca South chose to bat Cyril Cleveland set an early tone when he took a wicket in the first over of the innings, but the next wicket did not come until the 14th over when Jack Monk struck.
Apart from Nate Chantler’s nine later in the innings (including two boundaries) there was little resistance to the Echuca South charge.
- After just missing a final four finish Kyabram Fire Brigade’s under-13 team will end its season tonight with a one day match against Bamawm Lockington United.
They were beaten in their two-day final round match with Rochester last week after the third-ranked team lost just one wicket in chasing the 23.4 over Fire Brigade total of 8-108.
Fire Brigade batted after winning the toss, but lost both openers cheaply before Aidan Greiner (24 not out from 40 deliveries) and Ashton Depasquale (19 off 17 balls) got things back on track in the middle order. Only one other batter, however, managed double figures when Billy Sheppard scored 13 from the middle order.
Harry Roberts was the only Fire Brigade bowler to take a wicket as Rochester finished 1-153 from 21 overs – all 11 Fire Brigade players bowling at least one over.
- It appears as though Rhys Parsons, who scored a magnificent 90 not out a fortnight ago, has inspired other members of the expansive Kyabram Redbacks cricketing family.
In last week’s Cricket Shepparton under-10 game the Redbacks were dominant against Nagambie, restricting their opposition to just 77 and then piling on 168 from their own 20 over allocation.
Nagambie batted after winning the toss, but Mitchell Parsons produced an incredible two over spell that was rewarded with five wickets for just four runs.
Jensen Willis supported him with 3-13 from three overs and Oliver McInnes took 2-8 from his three over spell.
The Parsons were not done there, with Liam Parsons striking four boundaries in his 13-ball score of 19. Mitchell Parsons scored nine and Tyler Kenny matched that effort at the top of the innings.
- Lenny Perrella and Mitchell Parsons guided Kyabram Redbacks’ under 12 A-grade team to a four-run win by scoring seven runs in the final over of the match with Karramomus Baker on Friday.
Karramomus won the toss and batted, scoring 6-86 from 20 overs, before the Redbacks finished with 6-90. Perrella (15 not out off 19) and Parsons (six not out) needed four runs to pass their opposition’s total in the final over.
Zavier Parsons was outstanding in the middle order, striking two boundaries and two sixes in his 25-ball total of 30.
With the ball Lacy Parsons took 2-7 from two overs and was the pick of the bowlers.
- Tyler Nicholson channelled his elder brother in Friday night’s under-12 B-grade game, smashing four boundaries and three sixes in his 17-ball 37-run total.
He top scored for the Redbacks team as it scored 181 from 20 overs, then restricted Old Students to 94.
Nicholson had support from Oliver Dervish (not out 22 from 21 balls), Archer Nunn (20) and Rhys McKiernan (14).
Hugo Hemphill produced a great spell of bowling, taking five wickets from his three overs and allowing just four runs to be scored from that spell. Dane Matthews took 3-12 from four overs and Archie Williams 2-9 from his three overs.
