Played at Moama Rec Reserve, the over 35s clinched a hard-fought win, 4.9 (33) to 1.4 (10).
In blustery conditions, which made scoring difficult, the 35s peppered the goals early without luck.
Mick Davis finished with two for the day, while Dean Mitchell and Josh Hunter slotted home one each.
Mark Battiscombe, Josh Hunter and Ricky Thompson were dominant in the midfield all day.
Justin Voss played a great game in the ruck and supplied the midfield with plenty of opportunities.
The backline was solid all day with Damian Hammond, Damian Palmer, Tanner Christie, Paul Kervin, Paul Elso, Craig Danswan and Gary Davis restricting Yarrawonga to one goal for the day.
A great start for our over 35s.
The EMUs 45s played the following game against a very competitive Murray Crays.
Both teams settled into the game early and a hot contest was had. The final result 8. 6. (54) to 3. 4. (27).
Rhys Morgan was a focal point up forward, finishing the game with four majors.
He was fed the ball well from the likes of Lucas Walker and Chris Hagan.
Hagan also finished with two for the afternoon.
Drew Elliott and Adam Davidson played strong games across halfback setting up numerous forward 50 entries.
The highlight of the game was Mark Van Poeteren’s narrow miss from 98 meters out, with the ball falling just short.
Special mentions to Mark Davisson and Kate Christie, who umpired both games.
In round 2 the EMUs head to Kialla to take on the Murray Crays on Sunday, April 27.
All new players are more than welcome to play footy with the EMUs with training taking place every Wednesday night at 6pm at Echuca South Oval.
Matches are played fortnightly on either a Saturday or Sunday.
