2025 open doubles- men’s

The Pastoral Inn Hotel Motel played host in what can only be described as a top night of darts.
We had 18 pairs competing for the coveted prize of 2025 Association Men’s Doubles Champions.
To ensure everybody got their fair share of games, we started with four groups playing off in a round robin with the top two pairs from each group progressing to the knockout stage.
Until then there were no great surprises, however it was good to see some of the 2nd division players really mixing it up with the 1st div players.
In Group 1 we saw David Clark/Kodye Clark and Terry Heaney/Karlo Torlao progressing to the knockout stage.
In group 2, Michael Bajowski/Cal Burt and Keith Jones/Geoff Ward, Group 3 Shane Mensforth/Darren Manners and Chris Gritty/Darryl Telfur and in Group 4 we had Dallas Barnstable/Andrew Beaumont and Shane Broucek/Will Broucek all progressing.
At this stage it looked as though Michael and Cal or Shane and Darren were favourites but it was the father-and-son team of Shane and Will that prevailed knocking both teams out on their way to the final.
In the top half of the draw I would have put my money on Keith and Geoff but it was not to be.
The 2nd div pairing of Chris and Darryl put them out to progress to the final against Shane and Will.
Here we had a 2nd div pair up against a 1st div pair, anybody’s guess as to who would win.
The players had the option of playing best of five but due to the lateness of the night, they decided to play best of three.
Second division pair, Chris and Darryl, became eventual winners beating Shane and Will 2-0.
Shane was later heard to remark that he was not disappointed at being runner-up but he would have loved to have won for the sake of his son Will.
I’m sure there will plenty more opportunities for Will in the future.
There was only one 180 recorded on the night thrown by Shane Mensforth.
Geoff Ward hit a 171 (3 triple 19’s).
Ladies
We had four ladies teams vying for the right to call themselves 2025 Ladies Doubles Champions.
The teams included Penny Gritty/Charlotte Gritty, Dolly Dunne/Fran Seaton, Amon Sinnott/Ju Saeyang and Tanya Bicknell/Ling Thomson.
Ju and Ling had never played competition darts before so Amon and Tanya decided to split up to play with their friends.
The ladies played a round robin amongst themselves, then in what proved to be a very hard-fought battle, the top two pairs, Amon/Ju and Tanya/Ling played in what became an “All Thai” best of 3 knockout final.
Tanya and Ling took the title beating Amon and Ju 2-1.
I have it on good authority that the new girls thoroughly enjoyed themselves and will be definite starters in the next season.
There’s even talk there may be an “All Thai” ladies team in the making.
Meat raffle
Well done to “The Recyclables” taking on the raffle this week in the first of the rostered weeks.
Fundraising Manager, Sam Betts has distributed the roster and hopefully all teams will do their bit.
Again, the Pastoral Inn Hotel patrons dug deep to support our Association, we can’t thank them enough.
My holiday
As you all know, I’ll be overseas for the next 5-6 weeks.
I won’t be contactable on my regular phone number or in messages.
