Echuca holds an unassailable lead after scoring maximum points against Rochester in round 12, picking up the win 16-65 to 0-44 at Rochester Bowls Club.
The Roma Opie-skipped rink was responsible for most of the margin, her quartet of Ken Main (lead), Pat Schram (second) and Lee Beattie (third) earning the win 26-7.
On the nearby greens, a pair of nail-biters were taking place, Kerryn Evans getting the best of Kevin Hall 18-17, and Ian Page prevailing over Rob Dennis 21-20, resulting in all 16 points for Echuca.
With Mathoura having the bye, Moama made the most of the opportunity to move into second place, defeating Deniliquin 14-64 to 2-53 at Deniliquin Bowling Club.
Skips Trevor Eastwell and Robert Young shared the best result for the Steamers, both getting up by 10 shots, Eastwell 25-15, and Young 22-12.
Deniliquin skip Stephen O’Brien clawed some points back for his side, earning a 26-17 win, but it was Moama’s day.
Stanhope took a huge step towards securing a finals place, defeating table rivals Rich River 12-60 to 4-54.
The rink skipped by Austin Maxwell proved the difference, as his squad of Peter Myers (lead), Teena Harris (second) and Gregory Fitzpatrick (third) ran up a big score, 29-8.
Despite Rich River’s Bev Trengove (22-17) and Gary Radford (24-14) earning rink points for their side, it wasn’t enough to deny Stanhope the overall points.
The result all but eliminates Rich River from the equation as an upcoming bye gives it only one more opportunity to make up the 14 points to fourth spot, while Stanhope requires only three points over the last fortnight to rule them out.
Without a bye interfering in its plans, Rochester is the other side that could threaten for fourth, but will require a perfect run home.
Echuca, Moama and Mathoura’s finals places are assured, but Stanhope could upset their order if it wins its last two.
